When Shah Rukh Khan Talked His Dream Project Of Reimagining The Mahabharata Like X-Men: 'People Will Get Angry, Ban It...'
Shah Rukh Khan, who recently forayed into the action genre with ‘Jawaan’ and ‘Pathaan’, once disclosed his dream project. Prior to the trend of pan-Indian movies, which have a larger-than-life appearance, SRK expressed his desire to create a grand-scale adaptation of the Indian epic Mahabharata.
Shah Rukh Khan's dream project is to make the Mahabharata like X-Men
During the promotions of his superhero flick ‘Ra. One’ in 2011, Shah Rukh talked about turning Mahabharata into a contemporary tale and presenting it on a larger scale, like the Hollywood superhero franchise 'X-Men'. The old interview clip has resurfaced on social media, where the actor emphasises the importance of bringing back these mythological tales to the screen.
In the interview, Shah Rukh Khan said in Hindi, “I have studied extensively, and worldwide, the mythologies of Hinduism are spread. Gods used to come on chariots and descend with weapons. Each of our gods has a weapon—discus (chakra), boomerang, mace (gada), the strongest kind of whip. We have all these weapons, and these stories are fantastic to tell. If I get a chance, after Ra One, I want to create the Mahabharata like X-Men. However, I know many people will feel offended, get angry, and even ban it. But I think it's very important that if today's children—mine, yours, everyone's children—don't read the Ramayana the way we did or the Quran the way they do, then teach them in a different way, learn the same goodness, but make it interesting.

"He's a very big director, the brother of Ridley Scott, who gave me a concept many years ago. Before Superman, before Batman, there was Hanuman, and he had envisioned it as a superhero. It was a fantastic presentation; we don't think like that," he added.

Shah Rukh Khan wants to collaborate with international producers to make Mahabharata
A few years ago, SRK again spoke about this dream project and disclosed that he would not make the Mahabharata with Indian producers. The actor stated that it is necessary to get international producers on board because “Indian producers and Indian films have a limited market.”.
He told BollywoodLife in 2017, “This one has to go out into the international markets. So you have to collaborate with someone who’s international. You don’t take up a subject like the Mahabharata and make it any less. It should be on the scale of a Baahubali or an even larger one.”
